Employers and newcomers view the importance of language and communication skills very differently | Voice to Word Consulting

According to recent research, employers and newcomers value language and communication skills completely differently. Whereas 95% of employers consider these skills to be very important, only 27% of newcomers do. This is a huge difference which points to a major disconnect between newcomers and employers.

According to the site HireImmigrants.ca, research (from ALLIES, undertaken by R.A. Malatest and Associates and funded by the Government of Ontario,) “highlights the need to build more robust connections between employers and newcomers through programs that are sector/occupations specific.” In addition to the discrepancy in the importance of language skills, most employers are “unaware of the tools and resources available to help them attract global talent, yet 98% of those who used such supports found them useful.”
