What’s the difference in pronunciation between ex and eggs? Or wheat and weed? I have been posting a series of videos about English consonants. So far, we have looked at general categories of consonants. Now we are going to start looking at consonant contrasts.

In this video I explain and demonstrate the difference between voiced and voiceless consonants. This difference is important because it affects our comprehension of the sound (bee vs pea, for example, or tear and dear) as well as the length of the vowel (I will illustrate this but there is a big difference between bag and back, for example, and peas and peace).
