Have you ever felt like you’re talking, but no one’s listening? This can be caused by a variety of reasons. For non-native speakers, sometimes it is due to lack of clear speech, or culturally inappropriate communication, or simple difficulty in understanding the speaker. But quite apart from issues related to not having grown up in a culture or speaking a particular language, getting people to listen to you is a wonderful skill which needs to be developed. In this Ted Talk, Julian Treasure – who is a sound expert – shows us some useful vocal exercises and “shares tips on how to speak with empathy, offering his vision for a sonorous world of listening and understanding.”
